About Bouwhuis IT
Independent infrastructure consultant based in the Netherlands.
Background
I founded Bouwhuis IT in 2015. What started as IT support for local businesses has grown into a specialist consultancy for networking, VoIP and Linux infrastructure.
As a NOC engineer I've spent years managing SIP infrastructure and IP networks that handle millions of phone calls per month. That production experience informs everything I do.
I run my own Autonomous System (AS202585) with BGP peering at Dutch internet exchanges. I'm a board member of NLNOG (Netherlands Network Operator Group) and regularly give talks and workshops at conferences like NLNOG Day, MCH and HackerHotel.
Beyond consultancy I run several products: Cloudhaus.nl (managed hosting), MailShield.app (email security monitoring), IT53.nl (software and licenses) and eSIMopreis.nl (travel eSIM). Running production systems myself keeps me sharp on what actually works.
Expertise
I specialize in problems that don't have a quick Google answer. Asterisk edge cases, replication failures, complex network issues that require methodical root cause analysis.
Methodical troubleshooting: isolate the problem, find the root cause, fix it properly. No patching, no workarounds.
Why independent?
No partnerships, no reseller agreements, no commission structures. The only agenda is: what works best for your situation?
Sometimes that's open source, sometimes commercial. Sometimes on-premise, sometimes cloud. The right choice depends on context, not what a vendor dashboard shows.
Who is this for?
SMB & Startups: You have an IT manager or sysadmin who's capable, but stuck on a specific problem that requires specialist knowledge.
IT Companies & MSPs: You're stuck on a BGP issue, or a client asks for VoIP expertise you don't have in-house.
Tech Teams: You want a second opinion on your infrastructure design, or help with a complex issue your team doesn't have time for.

How I work
Direct & transparent
No corporate buzzwords. No vague timelines. If something can't be done, or doesn't make sense, you'll hear it directly.
Technically focused
Focus is on infrastructure that works and is maintainable. Not on slides, not on dashboards.
Pragmatic
Perfect is the enemy of done. Solutions need to work in the real world, with real budgets.
Knowledge transfer
The goal isn't creating dependency. Your team learns how things work, documentation gets written.
